MY LIFE HAS ALWAYS BEEN FILLED WITH DOGS SOMEWHAT — I used to spend my childhood summers at my grandma’s cottage house in the South of Spain. On the outer concrete floor there was a pawprint and every time I would get closer to see it and touch it, my mom, with so proud eyes, would tell me the story of Kiwi — their beautiful and loyal female German Shepherd who used to walk alongside her every single night to close the entrance gate — close enough so my mom would feel protected and far enough so she wouldn’t feel scared. I never saw a picture of Kiwi but I adore her.
The best part of those summers, besides the big pool and the nights of shooting stars, was my grandma’s neighbour — a British woman who had a house full of dogs. My favourite one was Ciro — a dark Great Dane that I used to run to and hug for hours. Such a shame I never had a picture of us.
Then Bolita appeared at my grandpa’s farm — she was something else. A magnificent Mastiff I greeted when she was just a few weeks old and I was only 5. We grew up together and she turned into my confidant in my early teenage years. Thinking about her always brings some tears to my eyes.
Little did I know back then that I would find my soul dog in the other half of the world two decades later.
GORDITO, MY MUSE
MY NEVER·ENDING SUMMER LOVE
IS CALLED GORDITO
My pug obsession started when watching that scene from Friends where Phoebe is holding a pug in her hands while mocking the puppy moves. It was absolute love at first sight.
Then I met Petite and Pepo and I officially became a pug lover.
It was my third week in Tbilisi, Georgia, when I got the chance to adopt Gordito. It was a soul connection.
And since that 3rd February 2013, my life just got a lot brighter.
Gordito encompasses the loyalty of Kiwi, the magnificence of Ciro, the nobility of Bolita, the mischievousness of Petite and the goofiness of Pepo.
Instinctively I have been taking pictures of Gordito non stop throughout these 12+ years together. All his first times, all his mannerisms. And I cannot thank my past self enough. He is my muse. He is my chosen family.
Fun fact : In all my trips, no matter where I am in the world, I always always always come across pugs, they are my lucky charm ☺︎

THE IMMENSE GIFT OF BEING PRESENT
OUR RITUALS TOGETHER
Time passes by differently now I am more aware of our limited time together. Everything is unhurried, does taste better and is a beautiful excuse to celebrate our bond and turn it into a thoughtful and soulful ritual.
Gordito joins me everywhere I go, he is truly my life & travel companion, and we have so many favourite plans together.
A sunset walk along the beach, a morning swim in the ocean, a movie night in, a watermelon snack by the pool, a birthday cake prep, a Sunday art exhibit, a home bath, an aperitivo with the girls, a winter weekend in the mountains, a family trip in Europe … every little or big plan together is a joyous gift.
As you read these lines, please take this as an invitation for you to start treating as unique rituals even the most worldly chores you do with or for your dog and they will become magical and memorable moments together onwards.
